Sona is an enchanter Support champion. She excels at healing and buffing your team to keep them alive as well as having a huge Ultimate that can stun the whole enemy team. Her early laning phase can be pretty rough because you will be spamming abilities a lot and will get quite low on mana, so make sure you keep an eye on that. You also need to be careful if the enemy bot lane engages, because you don't have a lot of health and can die really quickly. The later the game goes, the better Sona gets. Her heals become even stronger and you will have pretty much-unlimited mana to spam all your abilities.
Sona does best with support items that give her heals and shields more power. Archangel's Staff is a unique item for Sona when it comes to supports. Early on, Sona can really struggle with mana so this helps out a lot when spamming your abilities and scales really well into the late game, giving her more mana so you won't have to worry about being low. Ardent Censer is a go-to and must-buy on Sona. Not only do you get a bit of health and ability power, but the passive is the important part. When you heal an ally, they gain bonus attack speed and deal more damage. This is great with Sona's Aria of Perseverance as it has an area of effect and can heal multiple allies.
With runes, we have the following:
This gives Sona's heals an extra shield on top of the rune and allows you to deal that little bit extra damage which is excellent for early-game trades in the laning phase.
Sona's Hymn of Valor is easy to hit on enemy champions, especially during the laning phase. With Font of Life, you and your ally can heal and sustain more during the laning phase.
Sona can take a lot of damage and be focused down by enemy champions since she can heal and shield so much. However, Bone Plating will help protect Sona, allowing her to take reduced damage.
Revitalize gives Sona's Heals and Shields from her abilities so much more power which is one of Sona's main concepts in winning the game.
Enchanter Supports like Sona loves to build as much Ability Haste as possible so she can use her abilities more often. This means Sona can heal and shield allies more often and deal a lot of poke damage.
Sona does ok in the early game, you can poke the enemy with Hymn of Valor and you can heal your AD carry with Aria of Perseverance if they are low on HP so you can survive and stay in lane longer. Always keep an eye on your mana and make sure you don't waste your abilities so you run out. You have to be very careful when stepping forward as if you get caught out and engaged on you can die very quickly.
The later the game goes, the stronger Sona gets as her shields and heals get better with more items. You can use your Crescendo to engage on the enemies, but make sure you always stay back and heal your team. It is really important as a support that you stay with your team and help them during team fights. Prioritize staying back and keeping your carries alive, protecting them against the enemy team using everything possible to keep them healthy. The AD Carry in your team is one of the main damage sources and keeping he/her alive is really important!
Sona is quite an easy champion to play but does have an Ultimate that is a game-changer. She is great at keeping your team alive and can pressure a lot in the laning phase to give your Dragon Lane partner a lot of breathing space.
