Brand is an AP Mage Support champion. He excels at dealing lots of magic damage with all of his abilities and combo. He is very strong during the laning phase with his poke and crowd control, you just need to be careful if the enemy bot lane engages onto you because you do not have a lot of health and can die quickly. The later the game goes, the better Brand gets. With all of his damage and crowd control, he is amazing during them crucial team fights.
Brand can also be played in the mid lane, make sure to check the alternative build at the top of the page! As Brand mid, the build and runes are not that much different but you will be able to get a lot more gold and experience to carry in team fights.
Pre 5 Combo
Brand's abilities set enemies Ablaze, dealing magic damage over a few seconds. Stacking Ablaze 3 times on champions and large monsters causes them to detonate after a few seconds, dealing magic damage.
When you set enemies Ablaze with an ability, the next abilities you land on that target get bonuses which we will talk about with each ability.
Brand launches a fireball that deals magic damage to the first enemy hit. It's important to note that this ability can be blocked by minions and monsters, so if you are trying to hit this ability on an enemy champion, make sure there is no minions or monsters in between that can block it.
If the target is already Ablaze, Sear stuns for just over a second. Most of the time you want to save Sear for when a target is already Ablaze, to have the chance of stunning that target which will make landing your other abilities much easier.
This is Brand's main damage and poke ability that works great during the laning phase. When you use this ability, after a short delay fire erupts at the location dealing magic damage to enemies. If the target is already Ablaze, Pillar of Flame deals more damage.
Don't be afraid to use this all the time during the laning phase as it's an easy way to deal a little bit of damage to the enemy and you can stack your Manaflow band rune.
Brand ignites enemies near the target dealing magic damage. This ability is NOT a skill shot and is really easy to hit on any target if you are within range. This ability is your enabler for other abilities to get the extra bonuses because it's really easy to set enemies Ablaze from using Conflagration.
If the target is already Ablaze, Conflagration spreads farther. This is really good if you want to quickly clear a minion wave so you have some time to roam around the map or go back to base to buy more items.
Brand releases a torrent of flame that bounces up to 5 times between enemies or himself, each bounce dealing magic damage. This is Brand's big teamfight ability that does a lot of damage and can surprise most enemies when bouncing around.
You want to make sure you use Pyroclasm when there are enemies grouped up together so it can bounce around and try not to waste on just 1 or 2 targets. If the target is already Ablaze, Pyroclasm also briefly slows.
Brand does great with most ability power items. His main source of damage is from all his abilities. Luden's Echo is a very good first item for Brand. With Brand, you will be moving a lot throwing your abilities and doing a lot of poke damage. Luden's passive grants stacks when moving and casting abilities, and at 100 stacks, your next ability deals bonus magic damage. This allows you to stay back to keep using abilities and dealing damage. Liandry's Torment is another strong item because it works nicely with Brand's passive. The longer you are in combat, the more stacks you will get for Liandry's Torment, and with Brand's passive, you will deal damage over time so stacking Liandry's Torment is much quicker on Brand.
With runes, we have the following:
As Brand you have many combos that you can hit with ease and if you hit an enemy with 3 separate attacks or abilities, you will deal bonus damage which is useful especially during the laning phase.
A good way to get that extra bit of ability power damage especially in the early game where you can poke down enemies with Brand's abilities.
As a support you want to help out your ADC as much as you can and with Loyalty, not only do you gain Armor and Magic Resist, but so does your ADC.
Brand has a lot of poke abilities and it's really easy to get stacks on this rune to gain more mana which helps a lot as the game goes on.
Brand is played a bit differently from your traditional support. He's really strong in the early game, you can poke enemies with Pillar of Flame (Ability 2) and use your pre 5 combo to burst down targets and deal tons of damage. Keep an eye out on the passive to see if you have an opportunity to deal more damage if you stack Ablaze 3 times.
You have to be very careful when stepping forward with Brand, as if you get caught out and engaged, you can die very quickly. The best thing to do is let your AD Carry last hit minions and try to stay back but try and walk up when possible to poke down the enemy.
In the late game Brand is a scary force that no one wants to deal with! All of his abilities (especially the ultimate) deal great amounts of damage and can are significantly impactful during team fights. You want to stay with your team at all times, making sure you are right at the back so you can keep using your spells and not worry about any enemies jumping onto you. Make sure you do not get caught out by yourself, you don't do well at all in a 1 vs 1 situation and you die very fast.
Overall Brand is a very fragile champion however he can do a lot of damage. He can catch enemies off guard and burst them from 100 to 0 very quickly with his crowd control and damage from his abilities.
