How to play Lux

In this guide, we will be taking a look at Lux Support. It's worth mentioning that you can also play Lux in the mid lane. Lux is an enchanter support champion. She excels at shielding and healing to help out your team and to help keep them alive. She has a pretty strong laning phase you just need to be careful if the enemy bot lane engages onto you because you do not have a lot of health and can die very quickly. The later the game goes the better Lux gets. Her shields and crowd control from Light Binding (1st Ability) become even stronger and you can do a lot more to keep your team alive.

Lux Build Breakdown

Ardent Censer
Harmonic Echo
Rabadon's Deathcap
Morello-nomicon
Void Staff
Ionian Boots of Lucidity - Shadows

Lux does best with support items that give her shield more power. With that in mind, Ardent Censer is the go-to and must-buy on Lux. Not only do you get a bit of health and ability power but the passive is the important part. When you shield an ally they gain bonus attack speed and deal more damage. This works great with Prismatic Barrier (2nd Ability) Lux's shield. Another core and must-buy item is Harmonic Echo. This gives you much-needed mana and a little bit of extra ability power. But again the main reason is for the passive. Moving and casting abilities build Harmony stacks. At max stacks, your next shield on an ally will also heal them.

With runes, we have the following:

Aery

This gives Lux more shield power and also allows you to deal a bit extra damage which is nice for early game trades in the laning phase.

Weakness

Lux's 1st ability, Light Binding, immobilizes the enemy and can hit multiple targets, so your team can follow up and deal 5% more damage to that enemy.

Loyalty

As a support champion your main job is to keep your team alive and loyalty is a great rune that can help!

Manaflow Band

With Lucent Singularity (3rd ability) you can poke out the enemy in the laning phase which gives you stacks on this rune to gain more mana which helps a lot as the game goes on.

Flash
Heal

For summoner spells, Flash is a must on most champions. It's a great spell to get you out of a bad situation or allows you to flash and save your ally or even maybe get a kill. Heal works really well as a 2nd summoner spell choice if your AD Carry takes barrier however if your bot lane duo (AD Carry) also takes heal it is really bad for you to also go heal because you don't get the full effect. If this happens then change heal to Ignite to help kill the enemies.

Early Game

Lux does well in the early game, you can poke the enemy with Lucent Singularity (3rd Ability) and if you can time your Prismatic Barrier (2nd Ability) shield you can win trades vs the enemy bot lane. The most important spell to hit during the laning phase is Light Binding (1st Ability). If you can land this ability in the laning phase the enemy will be rooted and you can win the trade vs the enemy every time. You have to be very careful when stepping forward with Lux as if you get caught out and engaged on you can die very quickly.

Late Game

The later the game goes the stronger Lux gets as her shields and heals get stronger with more items. Surprisingly Lux can still do a lot of damage as a support. If you land Light Binding (1st Ability) on the enemy make sure you follow it up with Final Spark (Ultimate) to deal a lot of damage. It is really important as a support that you stay with your team and help them during team fights. Prioritize staying back and keeping your carries alive protecting them against the enemy team using everything possible to keep them alive. The AD Carry in your team is one of the main damage sources and keeping he/her alive is really important!

Conclusion

Overall Lux relies a lot on landing and hitting skill shots, I'd recommend going into practice mode to give her a try first to see what she does but when you get into the game you can stay back, use your shield, and damage to win the game.
