Mel is a tactical mage who can play in the Mid Lane. She specializes in controlling fights with her abilities, poking enemies and crowd controlling them to keep them at bay. Unlike other mages, Mel has incredible burst damage with her combos, making her a constant threat throughout the game. Mel's Rebuttal makes her very unique. It not only makes her immune to damage for a second but can also reflect incoming projectiles back to their caster. This allows you to play mind games with your opponents.

Mel's attacks and abilities apply and refresh stacks of Overwhelm for a few seconds each time they deal damage.
Overwhelm stores damage per stack of magic damage. When applied, if the stored amount exceeds the target's combined shields and current health, they are executed.
After Mel uses an ability, her next attack fires 3 extra projectiles. Each projectile deals magic damage and can be stacked up to 9 extra projectiles.
Mel's passive is key to her damage output. Keeping stacks of Overwhelm is key to winning fights. Sometimes using her Golden Eclipse after hitting her basic abilities is better since you'll keep the stacks of Overwhelm on targets.
Unleashes a barrage of 7 projectiles that explode in the area around a target location. Each explosion deals magic damage.
Radiant Volley excels in both wave-clearing and in skirmishes, helping her control the laning phase and poke enemies from distance in teamfights.
Mel forms a barrier around herself that reflects projectiles from enemy champions, makes her invulnerable for a second and gives Mel bonus movement speed.
Rebuttal is perfect for catching out projectile-cashed champions like Jhin and Ezreal, or even deflecting ultimates like Nami's Tidal Wave back to the enemy team. If the enemy team doesn't have any projectiles to deflect, you can always use Rebuttal to block high-damage abilities like Jhin's 4th shot.
Mel fires a radiating orb, rooting enemies at its centre for a few seconds, dealing magic damage. The orb builds up an area around it that slows enemies and deals more magic damage.
Solar Snare is great for setting up kills and creating crowd control opportunities in both the laning phase and teamfights.
Passive: Overwhelm's damage from Mel's Passive Radiant Volley is increased.
Active: Mel strikes all enemies marked with Overwhelm regardless of range, dealing extra damage for each stack of Overwhelm. As Mel scales, the damage boost from Golden Eclipse becomes deadly, making her an unstoppable force in the late game.

Infinity Orb helps Mel deal bonus damage to enemies that are low on health. This synergises well with Mel's long-range poke and passive dealing crazy damage in teamfights.
Awakened Soulstealer gives Mel a lot of Ability Haste so that you can use her poke and crowd control more often in teamfights. If Mel can get a takedown on an enemy, you can steal movement speed and more Ability Haste, making it difficult for enemies to deal with your damage.
Rabadon's Deathcap gives Mel a massive boost of Ability Power, which scales incredibly well into the mid/late game. It's an essential item to have in your build.
For runes we have:
Arcane Comet synergises well with Mel's kit, ensuring her poke abilities hit harder. Radiant Volley's slow and Solar Snare's root help guarantee Comet lands, giving you more damage throughout the game.
Gathering Storm helps Mel's damage scale into the late game, giving you more carry potential in skirmishes and teamfights.
Coup de Grace helps Mel deal more damage to low-health enemies.
Giant Slayer is another good option when playing against Bruisers and Tanks that build a lot of health.
The healing from Legend: Bloodline can benefit Mel when dealing damage with her poke abilities for the sustain and survivability.
Transcendence gives Mel the Ability Haste she needs so you can use her poke abilities more often to be a threat throughout the game. The Ability Haste also helps reduce the cooldown of Rebuttal to boost Mel's survivability.

In the Early Game, Mel wants to focus on poking enemies with Radiant Volley and Arcane Comet. Try to save your Radiant Volley for when the enemy walks up to hit last hit minions so that you can guarantee more damage on the enemy. If this is not possible, focus on farming with Radiant Volley and use Solar Snare when in range to root enemies before Radiant Volley to guarantee damage. Rebuttal matters a lot. It can be used to reflect key abilities or combos, or more importantly, it can be used to be immune to damage. Try to save Rebuttal to absorb the most damage possible.

In the Late Game, Mel wants to group with her team and focus on teamfights. When it comes to teamfights, you want to stand behind your front line and deal as much damage as possible. Even with your long-range poke abilities, sometimes it's best just to hit the first enemy that's in front of you. Focus on crowd controlling the front line with your Solar Snare. With your ultimate and crowd control, you can focus on executing an individual target when you have enough Overwhelm stacks, but if a squishy target walks too close, you have enough burst damage to kill them instantly.

Overall, Mel is a unique mage that has the outplay potential to turn a teamfights and with her poke and burst damage she can carry every fight during the game.
