How to play Soraka

Soraka is an enchanter Support champion. She excels at healing and keeping her team alive. Her laning phase is okay, you just need to be careful if the enemy bot lane engages onto you, because you do not have a lot of health and can die very quickly. The main thing to note is when you heal allies with Astral Infusion, you lose health. Hitting Starcall is super important because if you do hit the ability on an enemy champion, you heal a little bit. The later the game goes, the better Soraka gets. She basically becomes a heal bot and your job is to heal everyone to keep them alive.

Soraka Build Breakdown

Bulwark of the Mountain
Rod of Ages
Staff of Flowing Water
Seraph's Embrace
Ardent Censer
Ionian Boots of Lucidity - Protect

Soraka does best with support items that give her heals more power. With that in mind, Ardent Censer is the go-to and must-buy on Soraka. Not only do you get a bit of health and ability power, but the passive is the important part. When you heal an ally, they gain bonus attack speed and deal more damage. This is great as Soraka's Astral Infusion has a low cooldown, meaning you can heal allies a lot. Wish is global and heals your whole team. Another core and must-buy item is Staff of Flowing Water. This gives you much needed mana and a little bit of extra ability power.

With runes, we have the following:

Aery

This gives Soraka more shield power and also allows you to deal that little bit extra damage which is nice for the early game when trying to hit your abilities.

Weakness

Soraka's 3rd ability, Equinox, has the opportunity to immobilize the enemy for a period of time while they're in the zone, so your team can follow up and deal 5% more damage to that enemy.

Bone Plating

When playing Soraka you will always be the main focus for the enemy team because they don't want you to heal all you allies. Bone Plating will protect you and allow you to take reduced damage.

Transcendence

Enchanter Supports like Soraka love to build as much Ability Haste as possible so she can use her abilities more often. This means Sona can heal her allies more often.

Flash
Heal

For summoner spells, Flash is a must on most champions. It's a great spell to get you out of a bad situation or allows you to flash and save your ally or even maybe get a kill. Heal works great as the 2nd summoner spell choice if your AD Carry takes Barrier, however, if your bot lane partner also takes Heal, it is really bad for you to also go Heal because you don't get the full effect. If this happens, then change Heal to Ignite to help kill the enemies.

Early Game

Soraka does ok in the early game, you can poke the enemy with Starcall and Equinox and you can heal your AD carry if they are low on health with Astral Infusion so you can survive and stay in lane longer. You have to be very careful when stepping forward with Soraka, as if you get caught out and engaged on you can die very quickly. The best thing to do is let your AD carry last hit minions and try to stay back so you don't get caught but walk up when necessary to help out.

Late Game

The later the game goes, the stronger Soraka gets thanks to her heals getting stronger with more items. As mentioned before, Soraka basically becomes a heal bot and your main purpose is to heal your allies to keep them alive. It is really important as a support that you stay with your team and help them during team fights. Prioritize staying back and keeping your carries alive, protecting them against the enemy team using everything possible to keep them alive. The AD Carry in your team is one of the main damage sources and keeping he/her alive is crucial!

Conclusion

Soraka is a very easy and beginner-friendly champion to play! She is great at keeping your team alive and can pressure a lot in the laning phase to give your Dragon Lane partner a lot of breathing space. She has a lot of heals in her kit so if you like healing and keeping your team alive then Soraka is a great champion for you.
