Ryze is a mage who can play in the Mid Lane. Ryze is famously known for his insane late-game scaling. His low cooldowns on his abilities and combos allow him to do insane single-target and area-of-effect damage. A consequence of this is that his early game can be a little lackluster compared to other champions. Ryze also has built-in bonus movement speed that he can gain from Overload's passive. This makes him extremely difficult to shut down in fights and makes it easier for you to hit his abilities.
Ryze gains maximum mana based on his Ability Power, and his abilities deal additional damage based on his bonus mana.
This is why you build items such as Rod of Ages and Archangel's Staff, because not only does this allow you to spam Ryze's abilities throughout the game, but it also gives you more damage.
Passive: Rune Prison and Spell Flux refresh Overload's cooldown and charge a rune for a few seconds. When two runes are charged, Ryze discharges them, granting himself movement speed for a few seconds.
Active - Ryze unleashes a blast, dealing magic damage to the first enemy hit. If the target has Spell Flux on them, it is consumed, causing Overload to deal increased damage and bounce to nearby enemies with Spell Flux.
Before the start of a fight or trade, you should always use Overload at the beginning of a combo, since this will give you an extra cast, giving you more damage. Overload is a skillshot that minions can block, so ensure you have Spell Flux on an enemy to guarantee you hit the enemy standing behind minions.
Ryze deals magic damage and slows for a few seconds. If the target has Spell Flux, it is consumed and Rune Prison roots instead of slowing.
You do not need to root with Rune Prison every time. Sometimes it's best to stick with the slow so you can use Overload more often in a combo to deal more damage. However, if it's a champion that has a dash or is difficult to lock down, it's best to root the target so you guarantee the damage from Overload.
Ryze fires an orb, dealing magic damage and applying Flux for a few seconds to the target and nearby enemies. If the enemy is already afflicted with Flux, its duration is refreshed, and it spreads further to enemies nearby.
Spell Flux is your setup spell to deal more damage with Overload or Root with Rune Prison. Spell Flux itself doesn't do a lot of damage, but it can be used to help with wave clear in the early game to help you roam more often.
Passive: Increases Overload's damage bonus against targets with Flux.
Active - Ryze opens a portal to a target location. After 2 seconds, allied champions and minions near the portal are teleported to the location. Ryze's basic ability cooldowns are reset after teleport. If Ryze becomes immobilized or crowd-controlled, the portal is cancelled.
Realm Warp is an excellent way for Ryze to roam around the map and get easy access to other lanes to get an advantage. It can also be used to get him and his allies into the enemy backline. However, it requires excellent communication with your teammates to make sure they follow you inside the Realm Warp.
Archangel's Staff is essential on Ryze as he relies heavily on Mana to spam abilities and deal more damage. When upgraded to Seraph's Embrace, the shield is a great defensive tool when caught off guard.
Rod of Ages provides excellent scaling for both aggressive and defensive playstyles and is a must-have for Ryze. This helps him deal a massive amount of damage and provides some extra health for survivability.
Rabadon's Deathcap gives Ryze a massive boost of Ability Power (and Mana), which scales incredibly well into the mid/late game. It's essential to have in your build to help with Ryze's damage.
With runes, we have the following:
Phase Rush gives Ryze more movement speed on top of his Overload passive, allowing you to play more aggressively and escape any ganks. The ability haste also means you can perform Ryze's combo more often in a teamfight.
Gathering Storm gives Ryze a lot of Ability Power, which converts into Mana, giving Ryze more damage throughout the game. It's not helpful in the early game, but this will help Ryze shine brighter in the late game.
Coup de Grace will help Ryze deal more damage to low-health enemy champions.
Giant Slayer is another excellent option when playing against bruisers and tanks.
Bloodline gives Ryze omnivamp throughout the game, giving him more sustain and healing to help her during teamfights.
Manaflow Band helps with Ryze's mana in the early game, and it scales with Ryze to help you deal more damage.
In the Early Game, you should focus on farming. Since Ryze is a late-game scaling champion, his early game can be pretty weak. If the enemy laner is coming up too close, you can use Spell Flux + Overload or just Overload when they aren't behind minions. Remember, you can extend the range of Spell Flux by using it twice on the same minions. This can sometimes give you opportunities to use Overload and hit enemy champions when standing behind minions.
It's essential to build Tear of the Goddess before any item. Stacking Tear of the Goddess will give you more mana when using abilities, giving you more damage and getting you closer to Seraph's Embrace, which is a huge powerspike in the mid game.
Ryze is one of the best late-game scaling champions in the game. You'll have a lot of mana to spam your abilities and do a crazy amount of damage in teamfights. You should always focus on grouping with your team, stay on the backline and use Spell Flux and Overload to try and bounce your damage to the enemy carries standing behind their tanks. Ryze's strength is that he can push minion waves very fast and still be safe and rotate back to his team with Realm Warp, so if you see that a sidewave is pushing into your base quickly, clear it before joining a fight.
Ryze is one of the most iconic champions in League of Legends. The playstyle of playing a battle mage is unlike any other in Wild Rift. As long as you respect Ryze's early game weakness, you'll be able to farm and carry any game.
