Akshan is a marksman that focuses on building items that give him a lot of attack speed and attack damage. Akshan is a very mobile and aggressive champion, he can use his mobility throughout the game to roam around the map and get advantages from other lanes. When you find an opportunity you should always look to attack and use his abilities to proc his passive, Dirty Fighting so you can get the shield to win trades. When you get to the mid and late game you can use Akshan's high mobility and damage to swing around the map and increase your team's odds of victory!
Every three hits from attacks and abilities deal additional magic damage and Akshan gains a shield that absorbs damage. You should look to proc this as many times as you can especially during the laning phase. There is a bar underneath the mana bar that shows when your passive is back up again.
When auto-attacking, Akshan will fire a second shot that deals 50% less damage. Holding down the attack button will always fire the second shot. However, he can cancel this shot by moving and when he does he gains bonus movement speed that decays over a second.
It's really important to know when to double shot and when to cancel it to gain movement speed. Most of the time you want movement speed if the enemy is trying to fight back, but if you feel safe you can deal a lot more damage with the double shot.
Akshan throws a boomerang that deals physical damage, extending the range each time it hits an enemy. This ability is Akshan's main poking and damage tool in the laning phase.
Try to line up the ability so Akshan can hit minions and the enemy champion so you can hit both parts of the boomerang's damage. If you hit both parts of the boomerang you can follow that up with an auto-attack to proc your passive, Dirty Fighting.
If you hit a champion with Avengerang, Akshan will gain bonus movement speed decaying over a second. With this on top of the movement speed you get from Dirty Fighting, you can kite around enemies easily in team fights.
This ability has both a passive and an active to it. The passive is when enemies kill allied champions they become Scoundrels for a while. When Akshan takes down a Scoundrel he gains gold and revives the slain allies instantly. This is unbelievably strong, especially in the late game. You can turn the fight with one takedown and potentially revive your entire team!
The active allows Akshan to become camouflaged for just under 2 seconds while gaining bonus movement speed towards Scoundrels. The duration of being camouflaged is infinite while he is near terrain or in a brush.
You can use this to roam from the mid lane and gank either Baron Lane or Duo Lane to get an advantage elsewhere on the map. Make sure when you roam that you don't lose any minions mid lane as you will start to fall behind on gold and experience.
Akshan fires a hook to attach and swing around terrain, attacking the nearest enemy dealing physical damage per shot. This is Akshan's main mobility ability, but be careful as it can put you in a dangerous position if not used correctly.
If Akshan collides with an enemy champion or terrain, he will jump off the rope. If you want to avoid being put in awkward situations or colliding with the terrain, you can re-cast the ability and Akshan will manually jump off.
If Akshan gets a champion takedown whilst Heroic Swing is on cooldown, it will refresh the ability's cooldown. Most of the time you want to use this ability at the start of a teamfight to reposition yourself to get an advantage and you can potentially use it multiple times during a fight.
Akshan locks onto an enemy champion, charging 5 shots over a few seconds. This ultimate has long-range and does a lot of damage however it can be blocked by minions, champions and even towers so you need to make sure you position yourself correctly.
You can move whilst using Comeuppance and even use Heroic Swing to reposition to guarantee you land the ultimate.
Akshan can also recast the ultimate early if needed. This will deal less damage but it means you will get some quick damage off to try and secure the kill.
Akshan does well with items that give him attack damage and attack speed. Bloodthirster is a core item for Akshan. It gives Akshan a lot of attack damage and speed to help him in mid lane duels and even physical vamp to help with sustain throughout the game. Magnetic Blaster is another excellent item for Akshan, giving him even more attack speed and increasing his range every few seconds so he can auto-attack from a distance.
Onto the runes, we have:
Akshan has many ways to stack Press the Attack. His passive, Dirty Fighting, can auto-attack twice, and Heroic Swing gives you a stack every time Akshan hits an enemy champion.
Brutal gives Akshan more auto attack damage and allows him to play aggressively in the laning phase. Since Brutal is also on-hit, it works with Akshan's Heroic Swing.
When enemy champions are low on health, Akshan can deal bonus damage. This will help Akshan swing in and kill low-heath enemies. Giant Slayer is another good option when playing against Bruisers and Tanks that build a lot of health.
Alacrity gives Akshan Attack Speed which will provide him with some early-game power and allow him to play more aggressively in one vs one scenarios. Legend: Tenacity is another great option when playing against champions that have Crowd Control.
Since Akshan will be swinging a lot to deal damage, he will also be vulnerable to taking a lot of damage. Bone Plating will help Akshan take reduced damage from the first three instances of damage which will help him survive longer.
Akshan is strong in the early game thanks to his high base damage and abilities that allow him to play aggressively. When using your 1st ability, Avengerang, try to line it up so you hit both the minions and the champion standing behind them. If you hit both parts of the ability, make sure you follow up with an auto attack so you can proc the passive, Dirty Fighting.
In the laning phase, be careful when using your Heroic Swing aggressively as it has a long cooldown early on so you might get caught out without a way to escape. Most of the time you want to save it to try and escape an incoming gank.
Once you reach the late game and have your core items, this is where Akshan can be very mobile and deal a lot of damage. Try to use Akshan's Avengerang as much as possible to gain a bunch of movement speed to kite around enemies during team fights and always try and focus the Scoundrels so you can revive your team.
It's always best as an AD marksman to stay grouped with your team. You want to stay as far back from the enemies as possible and allow your front line to go in front of you to tank all the damage. Most of the time you are the main damage source, so if you are caught by yourself and die then your team is in really big trouble.
Overall Akshan is a fun and challenging champion to play. You will have to practice a lot to work out how to use his Heroic Swing. However, once you get used to playing Akshan, he has a very aggressive and fun playstyle that you can benefit from to get advantages all across the map.
